Personal History:
I have been involved in the slot car racing hobby since 1964 when I opened up my very first Strombecker & Marx home sets - parts of which I still have to this day. As most young boys of my generation, I raced Aurora Model Motoring HO slot cars in basements of friends homes and built & raced 1:24 scale COX slot cars at local commercial tracks. In my early teen years, I began to design and build Atlas cookie cutter HO train layouts. This enabled me to focus primarily on ATLAS HO, 1/32 & 1/24 scale slot cars. In 1978, I was fortunate enough to invest in merchandise from the local TWO GUYS department stores which were closing their doors in our area. I remember shoppers asking me, "What are you going to do with all of that stuff?" and staring at me as I wheeled shopping carts filled with close out merchandise through the checkout lines. In 1988, I was invited to go with a good friend to Polks Hobby Shop in New Jersey and be one of the first to hand-pick through their enormous inventory of slot car racing merchandise which was left over from the 1960s. Among the merchandise we invested in was one of my several Atlas store displays. I am only sorry that we did not buy more. How could we? We did not have access to the semi trailer that would be needed for the job. My 1986 Chevy Caprice Classic had to do. Thank God Almighty that it had a large trunk and a wide back seat! In 1998, I was fortunate to be in a position to purchase lifetime private collections from several major hobbiests throughout the USA and Canada.
